I love decorating my home, but I also love the challenges of making sure I’m keeping my decorating standards as high as possible.
Here are my favorite decorating tips and tricks for keeping decorating on point, even when it means decorating your house in a completely different way.
1.
Do the homework.
You’ll want to read about each decorating concept you have before you get started.
If you have a home decorating problem, here’s what you need to know.
2.
Get creative.
Get an idea of what you want your home to look like and start researching.
If your home is a one-time event, don’t spend a ton of time on it.
If, however, you’re planning on reopening your home every few years, find a different way to decorating it that isn’t too obvious.
For instance, you can have a different type of window in the kitchen.
3.
Decorate with your eyes.
For those of you with allergies, you might be more comfortable with the use of a non-toxic mask, like the one pictured above.
You might also like to use a decorative accent.
4.
Decorate with a light source.
If the windows are blocked with curtains, the light might look like a little window on the wall.
Or you can create a little light fixture on the ceiling to let the light shine through the windows.
5.
Find the right lighting.
A lot of people don’t realize that there are different types of lighting that can be used to add drama to a room.
The type of light you use can also make a huge difference in how your decorating will look.
If it’s a windowless space, you could use an incandescent bulb.
If that’s your situation, you may want to try out a light fixture like a candle.
If there’s no window, you’ll want a dimmer or a lamp with an LED light.
6.
Make sure you’re not making a big deal out of the decorations.
You want your guests to feel comfortable and want to take a picture, so you don’t need to worry about it too much.
If they’re not there, you want to let them know that it’s okay.
But, don\’t overdo it.
You can also let them decide if you have to put them there.
You just want them to feel that you care about them.
7.
Use an accent.
Some of my favorite ways to add a bit of drama are to make a curtain with an accent or a light in the background.
You may also like the way a wall decoration adds a little depth to your room.
8.
Use contrasting colors.
Sometimes it can be a good idea to use contrasting colors to add extra drama to your decor.
The main reason I love these is because they create a sense of space and height.
The light will also change depending on the color of the wall that’s blocking it.
This makes the room feel more organic.
If using bright colors, be sure to match the color that you’re using with the color scheme you’re creating for the house.
9.
Make it personal.
If something in your decor looks off, you don\’ t have to worry too much about it.
For example, don”t use a light to brighten up your room when you decorate it.
Instead, use a spotlight to illuminate the room, like a lamp.
10.
Create a focal point.
Sometimes, I get frustrated that my guests don’t seem to be paying attention to what I’m doing.
They’re just standing there in front of the mirror and staring at me.
I want to make sure that I make them feel like they are the center of the room.
This way, I feel like I’m giving them something special to look at.
I can also add a focal object, like an open window or an open fireplace, that will add to the drama.
